Seven Drillers Named All- Americans!
Seven Drillers players were named to the ASA All-American Teams, based upon their outstanding play at the National Championships in August. Named to the 1st Team were outfielder/DP Jess Schuler and centerfielder Marcy Lieb. Both players are gradutates of Kutztown University, where they played together in the outfield. Schuler was a previous All-American pick at the 1995 Nationals in Redding, CA, while Lieb was a 1st Teamer in Auburn, AL in 1998. Second Team All-Americans were pitcher Melanie Mattiuz, a Kutztown University product who went 2-0 at the tournament, giving up just seven hits in two games, and third baseman Tonya Lance, an Alvernia College grad who earned first team honors in Auburn, as well as in Spokane, WA in 1999. Lance blasted a monumental home run in the first game of the tournament, making it three straight years that she has accomplished that feat at the National Tournament. The Drillers also placed three players on the All- American 3rd Team. Former 1995 All- American pitcher and Kutztown grad Tiffany Keller earned her second berth on the team, along with second baseman Tonya Harley and leftfielder Missy Samus. Harley played her college softball at Division I Northeast Louisiana University, while Samus recently completed her collegiate career at Division I Ohio University. |
